January 3rd, 2011 I will be getting on an international airplane flight in LA! January 5th I will be walking onto New Zealand ground :) The trip takes a just over 13 hours but with the time change I loose an entire day.
This past fall 2010 semester at BYU, I finished my first cohort experience getting to teach at Spring Creek Elementary school with an amazing first grade class. On my last day there I took my students on an "airplane" ride, using google earth and a promethean board, to New Zealand to see where I was going to be traveling!
Using google earth we got to see the Sky Tower in Auckland, different animals that lived in New Zealand, and schools with other kids their age! The students loved getting to "fly" over the entire United States and then "fly" over the ocean to New Zealand.
After our trip I had my students write a pen pal letters to my future class I would be working with in New Zealand.
I am excited to have the opportunity to work with another group of great kids! While I'm in New Zealand I'll get to teach, take classes, and travel! Only two more weeks till take off :)
